Contests

the text

The Cangur test is an annual mathematical activity, in the format of an individual competition, promoted by the international association Le Kangourou sans Frontières, which aims to promote mathematics among young people and children through mass participation in a scientific activity, without attempting any selection or comparison between centers or geographical areas.

“The association aims to promote basic mathematical culture by all means, and in particular through the organization of an annual game-competition that will take place on the same day in all participating countries; the objective of this activity is to stimulate and motivate the vast majority of students.”.

You can watch the video of an education program from Televisió L’Hospitalet, Aula l’H, from January 7, 2026.

The program was hosted by Núria Toril, with the participation of Marta Berini, coordinator of the SCM Cangur committee, Pau Mir and Antoni Gomà, members of the committee, and a teacher and two students from the Institut Santa Eulàlia, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. We would like to thank L’H digital for the opportunity to explain what the key idea of the Cangur test is, how to participate, and how it helps in understanding mathematics.     Link

The 32nd SCM Kangaroo will be held, in the Catalan call, on the date of the international Kangaroo, on the day 18 March 2027.

In due course, the operating rules will be published, conceptually identical to those of this year with some small variations, which centres will have to approve at the time of registration.

  • The registration period will be from 11 January 2027 to 2 February 2027.
    • The call will cover 5th and 6th year of primary education, compulsory secondary education (ESO), and post-compulsory secondary education.
    • For baccalaureate and vocational training cycles, centres may request to take the test at external venues where students from various centres will meet. In all other cases, the test will take place at the centre itself.
  • Each centre wishing to participate must do unified registration, taking into account four sub-kangaroos regarding management: (primary, 12ESO, 34ESO, baccalaureate and cycles).
    • The registration fee will remain at €15 per sub-kangaroo (free for SCM member centres), with special consideration for centres requesting to take the Kangaroo «for older students» at an external venue.
  • For the holding of the test, registered centres may download from the centre area the statements and answer sheets from 16 March.
  • Given that 19 March is the last school day of the second term, for the delivery of answer sheets to the corresponding CRP (Educational Resource Centres), an appropriate deadline will be negotiated with the CRP themselves, which should preferably include some days after Easter week.
  • As in recent years, 15 contestants from each school level will be awarded prizes, an honorary mention will be given up to the 1% of contestants, and the list of the 6% of contestants with the best scores will be published openly.
  • The The prize distribution will be on Monday 24 May 2027.
