Gender promotion

Talent has no gender

We want to make women mathematicians visible and valued.
We want girls to also participate naturally in mathematics activities.

The initiative is currently underway:  Ambassadors of Mathematics  open to participation by high school girls, university students, teachers at all levels, researchers, professional mathematicians… PARTICIPATE!
It is inspired by the previous initiative 1TP5JoveMatemàtiquesCatalanes.

Commitment to gender equity

The Catalan Society of Mathematics organizes and supports activities to discover and promote female talent, aware of the current lack of gender equity in the field of mathematics, with truly concerning data. More information will soon be available in the Mathematics and Gender section.

Various initiatives have been developed for several years, especially around the celebration of the International Day of Women in Mathematics. Thus, events have been organized and various materials have been produced, such as documentaries, games, and exhibitions, which can be found in the resources section. The goal is to value and make visible female talent, which has always existed, even though historically it has gone unnoticed or has not been able to develop normally.

With current data, we must continue and launch new actions to encourage girls to participate in problem-solving competitions, discover their talent, trust it, and work to develop it. We are currently promoting the Ambassador project!

Encourage and prepare

Boys and girls, young men and young women, should be able to participate naturally in mathematics activities. In general, the SCM's competitions and activities for young people are already aimed at everyone, boys and girls, without gender distinction, but we need to encourage girls and young women to participate to ensure that gender does not act as a barrier.

In particular, we want to encourage girls in secondary school or high school who want to learn more mathematics to participate in activities that stimulate mathematical talent and preparation, because it is good to prepare, learn, gain more confidence, and share it with others, regardless of whether they like being tested and competing. We recommend:

Summary of initiatives

Ambassadors of Mathematics

It is aimed at girls in secondary school and high school who enjoy mathematics and will interact with primary school students.

The group of ambassadors was born in May 2025, with a selection through a 1st call, to carry out specific actions this 2025-26 school year. The 2nd call!

is now underway. this form  If you are a girl studying secondary school or high school, you like mathematics, and you want to be an ambassador, fill in.
