The Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM), a subsidiary of the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC), promotes and develops activities serving the mathematical community of Catalan-speaking territories to spread knowledge of mathematical sciences, fostering teaching and theoretical and applied research. There is a wide variety of activities and target audiences: from the Kangaroo test to international scientific nominations, including conferences, workshops, youth training, publications, awards, competitions, etc.

We invite you to become a member and collaborate to make this possible.
The SCM is the entire community of members!

The SCM admits different types of members:

  • Ordinary members  (individuals).
  • Institutional members  (university departments and faculties, schools at any educational level, entities and associations), who pay double the annual fee.
  • Student members (at any educational level), who pay half the annual fee.
  • Reciprocity members  (people living outside Catalan-speaking territory), who pay a reduced fee, according to the agreement signed with the corresponding society of origin.
The SCM awards a free guest membership for 1 year to people who receive certain recognitions, with the aim of allowing them to get to know it better.

The annual fee for ordinary members is currently 50 euros (approved by the members' assembly). Therefore, the fee for institutional members is 100 euros, and for students and reciprocity members(*) it is 25 euros.

The SCM maintains reciprocity agreements with various mathematical societies around the world. If you wish to become a member of the SCM and are already a member of a mathematical society, check if it appears on the list of reciprocities.
(*) Note that in some agreements the reduction is not exactly 50%.

Remarks

The members students have a reduced rate of 50%. Additionally, for those with a degree or doctorate in mathematics, we can arrange a letter for free membership in the European Mathematical Society (EMS, European Mathematical Society).

The schools that are  institutional members have discounts on registration for paid competitions, such as the Kangaroo test and the Kangaroo Cup. However, becoming a member means collaborating to maintain free activities for schools, young people, and teachers, such as: Problems at a sprint, Mathematical Countdown,  the’Mathematical Olympiad, training programs and workshops for young people and teachers.

We encourage all mathematics departments in Catalan-speaking territories to become institutional members. We need to network and feel like a community to promote nominations, awards, publications, conferences, and workshops.
