Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize in Mathematics
Prize established in 1992 by the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation. Awarded to a monograph written in English that presents the most outstanding results in an area of mathematics where recent advances have been made.
The work must be at least one hundred and fifty pages long, cannot be subject to copyright, and must not have been submitted to any publishing company for publication. The committee will consist of five mathematics researchers, one of them from the Catalan Countries.
The prize endowment, provided by the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation, is fifteen thousand euros (€15,000). The winning work will be published in the «Progress in Mathematics» collection by Birkhäuser.
Mathematics and Society Prize
Prize established in 2008 by the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation. Awarded to reports or activities in any language, of a general nature, on any aspect of mathematics (teaching, research, dissemination, presence in society), produced in the Catalan Countries in the twelve months prior to the resolution date.
Candidates may be submitted up to ten days before the resolution by individuals or legal entities linked to the media and to mathematics teaching or research, as well as by members of the Board of Trustees of the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation. All documentation must be sent to the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Foundation (carrer del Carme, 47, 08001 Barcelona; email ffsb@iec.cat).
The jury will be formed by the Foundation's Board of Trustees and representatives of the media that the Board deems appropriate. The jury will assess the topic addressed, the social impact, and the use of the Catalan language. This prize has no financial endowment.
IEC Prize of the Section of Sciences and Technology in Mathematics (in honor of Assumpció Català i Poch)
Prize established in 1979. Awarded to the best doctoral thesis defended in the 5 years prior to the call or to the best research work. Unpublished works may aspire to this prize. The work must be at least one hundred pages long, and if the original is not written in Catalan, it must be accompanied by a summary written in Catalan of 4,000 characters.
The prize may be declared void or not awarded. The prize will have no mention ex aequo, nor honorable mentions. Acceptance of the prize entails the commitment to write a review text on the winning work in Catalan, which will be published in one of the collections of the Section of Sciences and Technology.
The committee will be formed by three members proposed by the Section of Sciences and Technology.
