ACTIVITIES
«Crazy about science»: mathematics
In 2013, the Catalunya – La Pedrera Foundation created the program «Crazy about science» to stimulate scientific talent among young people.
The program's objective is to promote scientific-technological vocations among talented and motivated high school students through courses held in internationally renowned research centers, where they can discover cutting-edge science and the diversity of research lines in the scientific discipline of their interest, guided by professional researchers and through practical activities in a real environment.
The theoretical-practical sessions take place on Saturdays between January and June, allowing participants to experience the daily life of scientific professions, develop knowledge and skills, inspire and guide their academic and professional future, and share the experience with mentors and peers with similar interests.
Within this framework program, there is the course Crazy about mathematics, which since 2024 has been organized by the Catalan Society of Mathematics, with the participation of university and secondary school teachers.
Do you want to get a close look at what research in Mathematics consists of and discover the many different fields where its application is necessary?
We will discover the presence of Mathematics in current science and technology, and we will do so through the functioning of the different universities and centers where mathematical research is carried out. The project has the support and collaboration of the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Barcelona (UB), the Department of Mathematics of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), and the Centre for Mathematical Research (CRM).
