Summer School

The Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM) organizes training in July, as a Summer School, aimed at non-university teachers, following the strategic axes of teacher training, which respond to current identified needs through analyses, consultations, meetings, and other activities. We are committed to spreading knowledge of mathematics. You can check it on the website https://scm.iec.cat/activitats/formacio-docents/.


SCM SUMMER SCHOOL – July 2026

REGISTRATION OPEN FOR 2026 COURSES:
We are confirming accepted registrations, but you can still respond to the form (we may increase the number of places in some courses, or schedule more editions, given the interest that the training has sparked among teachers).

From this summer's program, we highlight:

  • short courses that are highly combinable with each other.
  • as a new feature in 2026, the online modality is introduced to make them more accessible to teachers across the territory.
  • with recognition for the certification of hours from the DEFP.
  • courses will be free for all active teachers (whether or not they are SCM members, although we encourage people to join). The SCM continues to bet on quality education and aims to offer training at the service of teachers.

RP Axis: Problem solving and attention to mathematical talent

We continue the tradition of recent summers, but increase the offer based on demand and proposals from 2025. The topics and problems between courses A and B are different (also from last summer) and therefore can complement each other. There is a one-day in-person session to complete it overall.

  • Course RP-A-2026 Problem Solving
    In-person at FME (UPC, Barcelona) (15 h) Dates: 1st round: July 1-2-3. 2nd round: July 6-7-8 (mornings, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM)
  • Course RP-B-2026 Problem Solving 
    Online (15 h) Dates: single round July 6-7-8 (afternoons, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM)
  • Workshop RP-J. Group Problem Solving Workshop.
    In-person at FME (UPC, Barcelona) (10 h). Designed as a complement to courses RP-A, RP-B, but with independent access.
    Date: July 9. Starting at 9:30 AM, with a round table after lunch.

AP Axis: Deepening Mathematical Understanding

To support teachers in expanding knowledge, resolving doubts, and generating understanding (and therefore confidence, self-assurance, and less stress). In particular, they are aimed at teachers who want to update themselves or who took fewer mathematics credits in their initial training.

  • Course AP-PROB-1. Deepening in Probability 1: combinatorics, key concepts, and conditional probability.
    Online (20 h). Synchronous session dates: July 1-2-3 (mornings, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)
  • Course Ap-EST. Deepening in Statistics 1.
    Online (15 h). Synchronous session dates: July 7-8 (mornings, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)
  • Course Ap-FUN. Deepening in Functions 1: limits, trigonometric functions, exponential and logarithm.
    Online (20 h). Synchronous session dates: July 6-7-8 (mornings, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)
  • Course Ap-INT. Deepening in Integration 1: geometric interpretation and calculation of primitives.
    Online (15 h). Synchronous session dates: July 9-10 (mornings, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM)

PREVIOUS TRAININGS


SCM Summer School – July 2025

The first edition as a Summer School was in July 2025. The courses were free for all participants, whether members or not, with contributions from SCM's own funds.

Teachers from different educational stages participated, working on key aspects such as mathematical understanding, curricular continuity, problem solving, interdisciplinary applications, and the use of Python in mathematical contexts, for example.

The courses were recognized within the Permanent Teacher Training program of the Department of Education and Professional Training, for the certification of hours.

Course Program 

Weaving the curriculum: connections between stages and structuring mathematical thinking

Course with participatory sessions, combining expository and collaborative parts. It included a special session by Carmen Trinidad (Chair of Neuroeducation, UB) on how the brain learns.

Territorial Editions

  • Ponent Counties: between July 1 and 11 (2 in-person sessions, 1 synchronous online session), Lo Pla d'Urgell Institute, Bellpuig. Certification: 15h.
  • Central Catalonia: : between July 3 and 10 (2 in-person sessions, 1 synchronous online session), EPSEM-UPC, Manresa. Certification: 15h.
Solving mathematical problems: tools and strategies

Course aimed at improving teaching practice in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and combinatorics.
Demand exceeded the number of places offered. It received very positive evaluations, confirming previous experiences.

  • July 1–4, mornings, FME (UPC), Barcelona.

  • Certification: 25h.

  • Teaching staff: David Arso, Marc Felipe, and collaborators.

Applications of Mathematics with Python:

Practical course focused on real-world application contexts of mathematics and introduction to Python, Colab, and Jupyter Notebooks. No prior programming knowledge required. It received very positive reviews, confirming previous experiences.

  • Certification: 20h.

The Riemann integral and the calculation of antiderivatives

Course aimed at reinforcing calculus foundations, reviewing teaching practices, and identifying the most common student errors.

In the training, consideration is given to the Postgraduate course in advanced mathematics for mathematics teachers, designed by a transversal and interuniversity working group of the SCM.
