30 KANGAROOS ⇒ 30 PROBLEMS

We celebrate the 30th Kangaroo

In 1995, the board of the SCM learned about the Kangaroo test, an initiative of the French association Le Kangourou sans frontières. It was considered an interesting idea, and the proposed problems from the 1995 edition were sent to secondary schools. The feedback was very positive!

In 1996, the first SCM Kangaroo was organized for BUP. In 1997, it was already for BUP and COU, and the courses were gradually converted into 3rd and 4th year of ESO and high school. The success grew steadily, as participation numbers show. In 2015, as part of our 20th Kangaroo, the call was extended to 5th and 6th grade of primary school, and in 2016 to 1st and 2nd year of ESO.

In 2020, everything was ready for the 25th Kangaroo Test in Catalonia. But just a few days before the scheduled date, which that year was Saint Joseph's Day, the pandemic was declared. Although the test could not be held as a competition, the centers received the problems and solutions, and in many cases it was used as a teaching activity during the third trimester of the 19-20 school year or the first trimester of the 20-21 school year. Additionally, the Telecangur.

Due to the circumstances, the planned celebration for the 25th Kangaroo could not take place, but since this year we reach the 30th Kangaroo, we want to highlight this historic event and will be offering a fun proposal..

We hope you like it!

Over 10 weeks, we will publish three problems each week, general in nature but designed to make you think. The problems start with one from the proposal sent to centers in 1995 and continue with one from each edition. Thus, in the week of the 30th Kangaroo, problems 28, 29, and 30 will be published. We hope you like it!
