Bebras Olympiad: challenge your computational thinking!

From November 10 to 14, 2025, the’Bebras Olympiad, a contest that proposes computational thinking challenges for primary, secondary, and high school students, without requiring prior programming knowledge.

It originates from the’International Bebras Challenge, an international activity carried out annually by millions of young people in 85 countries, and will be promoted as a contest in Catalan as a joint initiative of the Catalan Informatics Olympiad Association (OICAT), the Catalan Society of Mathematics, and the Catalan Society of Technology, with support from the Barcelona School of Informatics of the UPC and the Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (EHU, University of the Basque Country) as representatives of Bebras in Catalonia and the Spanish territory, respectively.

Bebras is an online test in which students must solve, in 45 minutes, a series of short and clever problems that stimulate logic, creativity, and reasoning ability. The challenges present situations close to computer science and mathematics, but in a way that does not require programming knowledge, instead stimulating analytical and problem-solving skills.

The test is taken individually online for 45 minutes at the educational center, and each school can choose the time that best suits them within the established period.

Categories and modalities

The contest is divided into 6 different categories: Root category

: For students in 1st and 2nd grade of primary school, who can compete individually or in teams of up to 4 students. Their test consists of a total of 9 problems: 3 easy, 3 medium, and 3 hard.Branch category.
: For students in 3rd and 4th grade of primary school, who can compete individually or in teams of up to 4 students. Their test consists of a total of 12 problems: 4 easy, 4 medium, and 4 hard.Beaver category.
: For students in 5th and 6th grade of primary school, who compete individually. Their test consists of a total of 15 problems: 5 easy, 5 medium, and 5 hard.Tooth category.
: For students in 1st and 2nd year of secondary school (ESO), who compete individually. Their test consists of a total of 15 problems: 5 easy, 5 medium, and 5 hard.Bark category.
: For students in 3rd and 4th year of secondary school (ESO), who compete individually. Their test consists of a total of 15 problems: 5 easy, 5 medium, and 5 hard.Wood category.
: For students in 1st and 2nd year of high school or intermediate vocational training (CFGM), who compete individually. Their test consists of a total of 15 problems: 5 easy, 5 medium, and 5 hard.Registration open (for teachers) until October 15.
