Abstract:
The monodromy conjecture is one of the most important open problems in the theory of algebraic singularities. In its original form, this conjecture relates arithmetic properties of multivariate polynomials over the integers to geometric/topological properties of their complex zero sets. In this talk, we will use this problem to introduce different aspects of singularity theory.
