Xavier Ros-Oton National Research Award 2024
The Catalan mathematician Xavier Ros-Oton has been awarded the National Research Award for Young Talent 2024, one of the most prestigious scientific recognitions awarded in Catalonia. This award distinguishes young researchers under 40 who have stood out for their scientific impact and leadership in their area of knowledge.
With this distinction, Xavier Ros-Oton National Research Award 2024 it becomes a milestone for Catalan mathematical research, as it is the first time this award has been given to a mathematician. The prize recognizes his pioneering contribution in the field of partial differential equations (PDE), a fundamental area of mathematics with direct applications in physics, engineering, economics, and natural sciences.

Xavier Ros-Oton is currently an ICREA research professor i a professor at the University of Barcelona. His work focuses on studying the regularity and structure of solutions to PDE problems, particularly in nonlinear contexts and with complex boundary conditions. His approach combines sophisticated analytical techniques with deep geometric and physical intuition.
His research career has been recognized with national and international awards, such as the Stampacchia Gold Medal (2021), the Princess of Girona Foundation Scientific Research Award (2019) and the Rubio de Francia Award (2017). These recognitions reinforce the importance and impact of his work in the field of applied mathematics.
The awarding of the National Research Award for Young Talent 2024 to Xavier Ros-Oton is also a source of pride for the Catalan mathematical community and an inspiring example for new generations of scientists. From the Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM), we celebrate this success and extend our most sincere congratulations.
This recognition is a clear demonstration that mathematical research is not only fundamental for scientific and technological progress but can also have a strong public resonance when accompanied by excellence, passion, and dedication.
