Next March 22, 2025, the city of Lleida will be the setting for the 1st Ponent Conference on Mathematics and Computing, which arises from the will of the organizing entities to highlight the territory and the International Day of Mathematics (IDM314), coinciding with two very special activities: the celebration of the Catalan Computing Olympiad (OICAT) and sessions of the Mathematical Talent Stimulus Program Estalmat Catalunya in Lleida.
Young people, teachers, and the general public are invited to a program of activities jointly organized by the University of Lleida, the Catalan Society of Mathematics, and Feemcat-Lleimat, which will begin with a lecture by mathematician Eva Miranda, ICREA professor and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, also affiliated with the CRM, who has received numerous international recognitions.
The conference will take place at the Cappont Campus of the University of Lleida (UdL) and will offer a program open to teachers, young people, and the general public.

The event coincides with the celebration of the International Day of Mathematics (IDM314) which is celebrated worldwide on March 14 with numerous activities spanning several weeks.
The celebration in Lleida integrates two highly relevant activities in the Catalan educational landscape:
- The Catalan Computing Olympiad (OICAT), the olympic competition where Catalan youth selected for this final will test their skills in programming and computational problem-solving, in order to qualify with options for the world-level olympiad.
- The sessions of the Estalmat Catalunya program in Lleida, an initiative aimed at stimulating the mathematical talent of young people with special aptitude in this subject.
A program for teachers, students, and the general public
Starting at 12:15 PM, the conference will open its doors to all those interested in the fields of mathematics and computing. The goal is to share activities while offering opportunities and information to more young people in the region, as well as providing a meeting space for teachers, young talents, and their families.
The program includes:
- Lecture «From certainty to chaos: Alan Turing, the drifting asteroid, and the mystery of the rubber ducks» by Eva Miranda.
- Discovering mathematics through MMACA games.
- Scavenger hunt and group activities.
- Guided tours and discoveries.
A conference with accreditation for teachers
This meeting will also have a training component for teachers of the Department of Education of Catalonia, who can accredit their participation within the Permanent Training Plan, managed by the’Institute of Education Sciences (ICE) of the UdL.
