The Catalan Society of Mathematics This Tuesday, May 26, the award ceremony for the 2026 Kangaroo Test and other mathematical competitions promoted by the entity was held, in a day dedicated to recognizing the talent, effort, and participation of thousands of students from across the territory.
The event, held at the Teatre de l’Aliança del Poblenou in Barcelona, marks the end of the 31st edition of the Kangaroo Test organized by the SCM.
What is the Kangaroo Test?
The Kangaroo Test is an international mathematics competition promoted by the association “Le Kangourou sans Frontières”, present in dozens of countries and considered one of the school mathematics events with the highest participation in the world. In Catalonia, the initiative has been organized by the SCM since 1996.
The main objective of the test is to foster interest in mathematics among students through logic, reasoning, and creativity problems, moving away from the traditional model based solely on mechanical calculation.
The competition is aimed at students from 5th grade of primary school to high school and vocational training, with tests adapted to each educational level. The 2026 edition was held on March 19 and 24 at various locations across the territory.
A reference mathematical activity
The Kangaroo Test has become one of the most relevant educational activities for bringing mathematics closer to young people. The exercises pose challenges that test participants' interpretation skills, strategy, and critical thinking.
According to the SCM itself, the initiative seeks to generate a positive and motivating experience around mathematics, both inside and outside the classroom.
In addition to the Kangaroo Test, the Catalan Society of Mathematics promotes other activities such as the Kangaroo Cup, the Mathematical Olympiad, the Sprint Problems, or the mathematical story contests, with the aim of promoting reasoning, teamwork, and mathematical dissemination among students.
Recognition of talent and participation
The award ceremony served to recognize the students with the best results, as well as the involvement of educational centers and teachers who year after year make the SCM mathematical competitions possible.
With this new edition, the Kangaroo Test continues to consolidate itself as a key tool to stimulate scientific vocations and reinforce the presence of mathematics within the Catalan educational sphere.
