Eva Miranda, member of the SCM, ICREA researcher and professor at the UPC, is the proud winner of the STEM WOMAN AWARD 2024. Her work has been recognized with international distinctions, and she is also a mathematician committed to initiatives promoting female talent and the dissemination of mathematics and science in general. In particular, a few months ago she was one of the female figures included in a calculator model.
This is very good news, as mathematics is also being recognized, especially in the current context where there is debate about the importance of mathematics education and the various methodologies being used. It is good to highlight the value of mathematics as a basic science and as part of the STEM acronym, since in STEM projects mathematics is often diluted and made invisible. It is also important to show female role models who inspire girls and young women of new generations to pursue mathematics, because the percentage of women mathematicians is decreasing considerably.
