The Mathematical Time Trial returns: four challenges this October

The Mathematical time trial returns this October 2026 with four new online challenges aimed at students of different educational levels. A proposal to test ingenuity, reasoning and the ability to solve mathematical problems against the clock.

The first challenge will take place on Sunday 4 October and will kick off four consecutive Sundays of mathematical challenges.

What is the Mathematical Time Trial?

The Mathematical Time Trial is an individual online problem-solving competition that offers challenges adapted to different educational levels.

The aim is to offer young people a different way to enjoy mathematics, putting into practice reasoning, strategy and the ability to find solutions within a set time.

The challenges can be followed online, which allows participation from anywhere.

Mathematical Time Trial 2026 schedule

During the month of October, four challenges will be held, each aimed at a different educational level:

  • 4 October · 6th year of Primary.
  • 11 October · 2nd year of ESO.
  • 18 October · 4th year of ESO.
  • 25 October · 2nd year of Batxillerat.

All challenges will start at 4 pm.

In this way, each Sunday in October will be the turn of a different group of participants.

Eight challenges during the 2026-27 academic year

The competition does not end in October. The Mathematical Time Trial will feature eight challenges throughout the 2026-27 academic year: four during the month of October and four more in February.

This allows students of different ages and levels to find their own challenge and take part in an activity designed to stimulate talent and interest in mathematics.

In-person final in Barcelona

The Time Trial also offers the opportunity to take the challenge beyond the online tests.

The The top 20 finishers of each challenge will be invited to take part in an in-person final in Barcelona in June 2027.

It will be an opportunity to meet other young people passionate about mathematics, face new challenges and share the experience beyond the screen.
