The programme once again promotes mathematical talent among young people in the 2nd and 3rd years of ESO in Central Catalonia and the Pyrenees.
This Saturday, 26 September, it began at the’Manresa School of Engineering (EPSEM – UPC Manresa) the 12th edition of 7deMates, an initiative that aims to spark interest in mathematics and offer new challenges to young people who enjoy solving problems and exploring this discipline.
The programme is aimed at students in the 2nd and 3rd years of ESO in Central Catalonia and the Pyrenees with an interest in and motivation for mathematics. The first meeting of the 2026-27 academic year, held on 26 September, included the participant selection test.
Seven sessions to discover and enjoy mathematics
Throughout the academic year, 7deMates offers seven in-person sessions, approximately one per month on Saturday mornings, at EPSEM – UPC Manresa.
The activities are led by secondary school and university mathematics teachers and present participants with problems, challenges and new ways of approaching mathematics beyond the classroom.
The number of places is limited to guarantee the quality of the sessions and foster an environment in which young people can share their interests, develop their abilities and, above all, enjoy mathematics.
An initiative to foster mathematical talent
7deMates has the support of the Catalan Mathematical Society (SCM) and the voluntary collaboration of teachers from secondary schools in the region.
With this new edition, the SCM continues to support initiatives that make it possible to identify, stimulate and nurture young people's interest in and talent for mathematics across the territory.
Those interested in other proposals for young people and families can also consult SCM Community, the platform for disseminating and managing registrations for the activities of the Catalan Mathematical Society.
