BMD 2026: last days to register for the mathematical research congress

Of 7 to 9 October 2026, Barcelona will host a new edition of BMD 2026 (Barcelona Mathematical Days), a meeting point for the mathematical community dedicated to research, the exchange of knowledge and the creation of new connections.

Over three days, the’Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC) will bring together researchers from different areas of mathematics in a programme that combines plenary lectures, thematic sessions, research presentations and spaces for debate.

A programme with 8 thematic sessions and 4 plenary lectures

The scientific programme of BMD 2026 includes 8 thematic sessions dedicated to different areas of mathematics, which will allow results to be shared, new lines of work to be discovered and exchange between specialists to be encouraged.

The congress will also feature 4 plenary lectures given by mathematicians with a renowned international career:

  • Xavier Ros-Oton, University of Barcelona.
  • Dan Crisan, Imperial College London.
  • Ruth Charney, Brandeis University.
  • Marco Abate, University of Pisa.

A special session for young researchers

BMD 2026 will also dedicate a space to researchers who are in the early stages of their careers.

The EMYA-SCM special session will feature a lecture by’Elba Garcia-Failde, from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and a round table on the challenges of being a young researcher in mathematics today.

The session aims to create a space to share experiences, concerns and perspectives among the new generations of the mathematical community.

Research, posters and spaces for debate

The programme will also include a poster session, which will offer participants the opportunity to present their work and learn about research carried out in different fields.

In addition, several special sessions and round tables will allow reflection on the challenges and current trends in mathematical research.

The programme will also address the teaching and learning of mathematics, with a session dedicated to reflecting on the PISA results and the role of the mathematical community in this debate.

Three days to build mathematical community in Barcelona

Beyond the scientific programme, BMD 2026 will also be an opportunity to create bonds and strengthen the mathematical community.

The congress will include special activities in Barcelona, such as a reception at Barcelona City Hall and an special visit to the Sagrada Família.
