Introduction

The Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM) is a subsidiary society of the Institute for Catalan Studies  (IEC) that continues the work of the Mathematics Section of the Catalan Society of Sciences, founded in 1931. It carries out activities in all lands of Catalan-speaking and culture. Therefore, Catalan is the language typically used in all events and publications.

The fundamental objective of the SCM is the cultivation of mathematical sciences in a broad sense. This means spreading its knowledge in Catalan society, promoting its teaching and theoretical and applied research, and also publishing all kinds of works that align with these objectives.

The SCM is governed by its own Bylaws (5/4/1991), the Bylaws of the IEC (25/4/1998), and the Internal Regulations of this institution (27/5/1998). The highest governing body is the General Assembly, which meets at least once a year. The Board of Directors, elected at the General Assembly, is the management, representation, and administrative body of the Society, and it acts as the executive body of the Assembly.

On an international scale, the SCM is represented in the International Mathematical Union (IMU) through the   Spanish Committee of Mathematics (CEMAT); it is a full member of the European Mathematical Society; it is a member of the l’Associació Kangourou sans Frontières (AKSF), and an institutional member of the International Centre for Pure and Applied Mathematics (CIMPA) an organization dedicated to international cooperation in the field of mathematics, particularly in developing countries.

Membership in the SCM provides the following benefits:
