Abstract:
Currently, graph theory plays a fundamental role both in pure mathematics and in its applications in many branches of knowledge. In this talk, we will explore the evolution of the research area from its origins, passing through the great discoveries of the discipline, especially those related to the notion of randomness.
Our journey will conclude by discussing some of the current trends in the theory, which seek to incorporate the notion of the discrete (inherent to graph theory) into the realm of continuous mathematics in order to address, among other major challenges, the systematic study of the large networks existing in the real world.
