Meeting on the occasion of WOMEN IN MATHEMATICS DAY
Day: Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 12:00 PM
Place: IEC virtual platform
On July 31, 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, the Committee on Women and Mathematics of the International Mathematical Union approved, at the proposal of the Iranian Mathematical Society, that May 12, Maryam Mirzakhani's birthday, be Women in Mathematics Day.
From the Catalan Society of Mathematics, and despite the lockdown, we want to join this celebration. Maryam Mirzakhani was the first, and only, woman to win a Fields Medal (the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in Mathematics). She received the distinction in 2014, and in 2017 she died of cancer before turning 40.
Program

The narrative thread, half in Iran and half in the United States, is carried through the accounts of Maryam's friends, collaborators, and family.
