Estalmat stops in Girona with a day of mathematical talent at INS Montilivi

The program Estalmat Catalunya continues its territorial tour and this Saturday March 7, 2026 will make a stop in Girona with a day of mathematical activities at’INS Montilivi. The initiative aims to bring the program for detecting and stimulating mathematical talent to different parts of the territory and strengthen the bond with students, families, and the educational community.

The day is organized by Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM), FEEMCAT i ACFAEC, in collaboration with the’Institute for Catalan Studies, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), Ademgi and the same educational center hosting the activities.

Sessions for students

Between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM the sessions of the groups will take place simultaneously Estalmat 1, Estalmat 2 i Estalmat Pi, with specific mathematical enrichment activities aimed at students who are part of the program. The sessions are based on problem-solving, logical reasoning, and mathematical creativity, central elements of the Estalmat methodology.

At the same time, from 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM, a session will be offered pre-Estalmat aimed at students in 6th grade of primary and 1st year of ESO. This activity is designed as a first approach to the program and allows participants to experience the type of mathematical challenges worked on. Participation requires prior registration via form.

Space for families

The day also includes a specific space for families. From 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM, there will be a talk by’Anton Aubanell, a mathematics teacher and renowned popularizer, who will reflect on supporting scientific talent and the role the family environment can play in developing mathematical vocations.

During this time, information will also be presented about the activities promoted by FEEMCAT and the Catalan Society of Mathematics, with the aim of making known the different initiatives to promote mathematics in Catalonia.

In the afternoon, activities will continue with proposals aimed at families of Estalmat students, in collaboration with Casio, which will participate in the dynamization of the session.

A program to stimulate mathematical talent

The project Estalmat (Stimulation of Mathematical Talent) is an educational enrichment program aimed at students with a special interest and ability in mathematics. The project offers training activities over two academic years, based on problem-solving, creative thinking, and collaborative work.

In Catalonia, the program is promoted by Catalan Society of Mathematics i FEEMCAT, and is part of a state network promoted by the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.

With this stop in Girona, Estalmat Catalunya reinforces its desire to open the program to the territory and bring mathematics closer to new educational centers, fostering the development of scientific talent among young people and also involving their families in the educational process.
