The Catalan Society of Mathematics honors twelve figures of research in the country
Barcelona, September 16, 2025 — The Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM) organized a recognition event for twelve members of the Catalan mathematical community at the Prat de la Riba Hall of the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC). The gathering highlighted the excellence and international projection of mathematical research carried out in the country.
The president of the SCM, Montserrat Alsina, emphasized that «these achievements are the result of the collective work of a committed community.».
Among the distinguished individuals are Claudi Alsina, Pilar Bayer, and Marta Sanz-Solé, awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi; Xavier Ros-Oton, National Research Award for Young Talent; and researchers such as Eva Miranda, Xavier Tolsa, Xavier Cabré, and Joaquim Ortega, invited as speakers at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM).
The SCM also highlighted emerging talent, recognizing the young awardees of the society and those distinguished in the 2025 Sant Jordi Awards.
The event concluded with a speech by the Minister of Research and Universities, Núria Montserrat, who emphasized the key role of mathematics in addressing current social and technological challenges, and congratulated the SCM for the initiative.
The evening ended with a refreshment in the IEC cloister, fostering encounters among researchers, students, and institutions in an atmosphere of shared celebration.
