The project Ambassadors of Mathematics, driven by Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM), celebrates Saturday, November 22 the in-person session “Let's team up”, a meeting designed to strengthen the community of ambassadors and provide them with tools to promote mathematics in educational centers in Catalonia. The activity will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the’Manresa School of Industrial Engineering (EPSEM-UPC) and at the Museum of Water and Textiles.
A project to boost mathematics and STEM vocations
Registrations for the School of History of Mathematics 2025 are now open Ambassadors of Mathematics are about fifty girls from secondary and high school who, since May 2025, have been participating in this SCM program with the aim of bringing mathematics closer to primary and secondary students, reducing gender bias, and generating female role models in STEM fields. The project was officially presented at the Institute of Catalan Studies and is part of the SCM's actions to foster interest in mathematics and strengthen the presence of women in this discipline.
The program is framed within the growing need for professionals in scientific, technological, and mathematical fields, and also responds to the challenge of improving the perception of mathematics among young people.
A day to build teamwork and grow as ambassadors
The “Fem equip” session will allow participants to share experiences, strengthen bonds, and work together on the skills they will develop in their future visits to educational centers. During the day, the following will be organized:
-
Team-building activities to foster group cohesion.
-
Problem-solving workshops, organized by levels and guided by specialized teachers.
-
Project presentation and meeting with female role models, to reinforce their role as inspiring agents for other students.
-
Mathematical games and dynamics to explore ideas applicable to the sessions that the ambassadors will carry out in primary schools.
-
Visit to the exhibition “Mathematics and Life”, at the Museum of Water and Textiles, with research and reflection activities.
-
A surprise final activity, aimed at working on collaboration and creative problem-solving.
With the “Fem equip” session, the SCM reinforces its commitment to promoting initiatives that bring mathematics closer to society and foster scientific and technological vocations among young people. The Mathematics Ambassadors are thus preparing to begin a new stage of activities and visits to educational centers, acting as role models and contributing to building a closer, more balanced, and inspiring mathematical culture for future generations.
