New editions for the 2025-2026 academic year!
After a few years of pause, the Mathematical Time Trial is resuming, an individual online test aimed at students of various educational levels, up to high school, which tests their speed and ingenuity. It was born on February 12, 2017, created and designed by Víctor Lopez.
The Catalan Society of Mathematics has decided to support it in 2025, and promote it to give more opportunities to boys and girls interested in problem-solving.
The objective of the test is to solve, within a limited time, a series of mathematical problems of increasing difficulty. The importance lies not in performing complicated calculations or having advanced knowledge, but in thinking quickly, applying logic, and having fun solving challenges.
It is designed for boys and girls from the last years of primary school to high school, but it is also open to teachers and anyone who is excited to join!
The tests will be accessible individually and free of charge, and will take place online on Sundays at 7:00 PM, in two series, in the months of October and February.
📅 October 2025
• October 5: up to 6th grade of primary school
• October 12: up to 2nd year of ESO
• October 19: up to 4th year of ESO
• October 26: up to 2nd year of high school
📅 February 2026
• February 1: up to 6th grade of primary school
• February 8: up to 2nd year of ESO
• February 15: up to 4th year of ESO
• February 22: up to 2nd year of high school
Operation
• A time trial consists of 15 multiple-choice problems with 5 options each.
• The problems are solved in order, with a limited time per problem, a total of 50 minutes.
• For each problem, participants are divided into tables of 5, according to the ranking order, which allows them to earn extra points.
• Each contest is aimed at participants of a specific school level, but those from previous levels can also participate. Users from higher levels (older students, teachers, and other interested people) can participate in the open contest, which has a parallel ranking.

Prizes and in-person final
We are working on organizing an in-person final in May or June 2026, where the students with the best scores in the online tests will be invited, with prizes for the top finishers.
