Registration for courses “Gender gap in mathematics”, primary and secondary

Registration is now open until February 17 for training courses on gender gap in mathematics, aimed at primary and secondary school teachers. This training proposal offers tools to analyze the inequalities that still persist in the learning and perception of mathematics, as well as strategies to address them in the classroom.

The gender gap in mathematics is a widely studied phenomenon in the educational field. Although the academic results of girls and boys are often similar — and in many cases girls obtain equal or higher grades — significant differences continue to be observed in self-confidence, mathematical self-concept, and continuity in STEM studies (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

A challenge that begins in the early educational stages

Various studies indicate that the relationship with mathematics is built from primary education, and even earlier. Math anxiety, gender stereotypes, and social expectations can influence classroom participation and the perception of competence.

Among the factors that can affect the gender gap in mathematics, we find:

  • Differences in self-perception of performance.

  • Classroom dynamics that favor the more spontaneous participation of certain profiles.

  • Lack of female role models in the scientific field.

  • Overly competitive assessment models.

  • Differentiated social expectations based on gender.

Addressing this reality requires a broad perspective that combines scientific evidence, pedagogical reflection, and a review of teaching practices.

Teacher training with a gender perspective

The courses “Gender gap in mathematics: analysis and proposals” offer a workspace to delve into these aspects and incorporate concrete tools into educational practice.

The training allows:
