The Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM), the Federation of Entities for the Teaching of Mathematics in Catalonia (FEEMCAT), the Balearic Society of Mathematics (SBM-XEIX), and the Mathematics Education Society of the Valencian Community Al-Khwarizmi annually convene this conference to bring together mathematics teachers and professors from all educational stages, from early childhood to university, around a topic of debate of interest for mathematics education.
The SCM and FEEMCAT jointly convened the first conference in 2004, which is why this conference is called the Joint Conference. In 2008, the SBM-XEIX joined, and in 2011, the Al-Khwarizmi Mathematics Education Society joined.
Until 2015, all conferences were held at the IEC headquarters. Starting in 2016, a rotating system was established among the three autonomous communities where the four convening entities are based. Consequently, in 2016 the conference was held in Valencia; in 2017, in Barcelona; in 2018, in Mallorca; in 2019, in Barcelona…, and so on.
The Maria Antònia Canals awards (MAC awards) are also presented at the Mathematics Teaching Conference.
