Activities Promotion Fund (FPA)

In 2001, the SCM created the Activity Promotion Fund (FPA) with financial resources provided by the organization of the 3ECM, the Third European Congress of Mathematics of the’European Mathematical Society, which took place in Barcelona in July 2000. The extraordinary management of that congress by Catalan institutions and universities, led by the SCM, achieved a well-recognized success —the 3ECM is still remembered today as one of the best European congresses in this series—. The condition was that it be entirely dedicated to subsidizing mathematical activities in Catalonia within the scope of our society.

The SCM has maintained an annual call for FPA grants, managed and resolved by the SCM Board, an initiative that has operated continuously and has been very well received and valued by the Catalan mathematical community (you can see here a history of the grants awarded in recent years). In 2016, the initial fund was exhausted, but the SCM Board of Directors, following a proposal from the General Assembly of members on November 3, 2016, decided to make an annual contribution from its own resources to keep the grant offering alive, with the intention that this agreement would endure over time.

SCM members wishing to submit a request to the Activity Promotion Fund must fill out the SCM FPA form. The call will remain permanently open and will be resolved by the SCM Board at least twice a year.
