Eva Miranda receives the 2026 Agnes Szantó Medal, one of the most prestigious new international recognitions in the field of computational mathematics. The award was presented to her during the Foundations of Computational Mathematics Conference (FoCM 2026), held in Vienna, in recognition of her excellent scientific career and her leadership within the international mathematical community.
The medal ceremony took place on July 13, within the framework of the FoCM 2026 congress, one of the most prestigious international meetings in the field of computational mathematics. The next day, he delivered the Agnes Szantó Address, the lecture associated with the award, titled Found in Translation, in a ceremony held at the Vienna City Hall.
The first edition of a new international award
The Agnes Szantó Medal is a distinction created in 2023 by the Foundations of Computational Mathematics Society in memory of mathematician Agnes Szantó, a researcher in symbolic computation and former president of the society. The prize is awarded every three years coinciding with the FoCM conference and recognizes researchers at a mid-career stage who have made relevant and innovative contributions to computational mathematics, combined with a sustained trajectory of leadership and service to the scientific community. Eva Miranda is the first person to receive this distinction.
A scientific career of excellence
Eva Miranda is a professor of Geometry and Topology at the Department of Mathematics of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), an ICREA researcher and a member of the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM). Throughout her career, she has developed outstanding contributions in symplectic and Poisson geometry, dynamical systems, celestial mechanics, fluid dynamics, and the mathematical theory of computation, establishing new connections between fundamental and applied areas of contemporary mathematics.
Among the numerous recognitions received throughout her career are two consecutive ICREA Acadèmia, the awards, the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the François Deruyts Prize from the Royal Academy of Belgium, and the Hardy Lectureship.
