The board of the Catalan Society of Mathematics wishes to join mathematical societies around the world in expressing concern over the situation of Azat Miftakhov, a young doctoral student in mathematics at Moscow State University.
In February 2019, Azat was arrested on charges of terrorism and manufacturing explosives. Although these charges were dropped and reduced to breaking a window in an official building, he was sentenced to six years in prison last January.
