Speaker: Nuno Crato (Universidade de Lisboa<\/strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n Title: Why mathematicians should care about European PISA results?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Organized jointly by EMS and SCM Education Committees<\/strong><\/p>\n Abstract:<\/b>\u00a0PISA has become one of the main instruments for comparing the mathematical performance of 15-year-olds internationally. Recent results and longer-term trends raise important questions about mathematics education in Europe: What exactly do these assessments tell us? How should we interpret differences and trends across countries? And why should mathematicians themselves be concerned with these developments?<\/p>\n Nuno Crato<\/b>\u00a0is Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Lisbon and former Minister of Education and Science of Portugal, and former\u00a0president\u00a0of the Portuguese Mathematical Society.
