Students interested in taking part can start preparing with the free sessions organised by various Catalan universities and check the latest news about registration through the SCM Community.

A competition for young people passionate about mathematics

The Catalan Mathematical Olympiad is the Catalan phase of the Mathematical Olympiad, organised by the Catalan Society of Mathematics.

The competition offers students the opportunity to tackle problems that test reasoning, creativity and the ability to find and justify mathematical solutions.

Participation is free and the tests take place simultaneously at different locations across Catalonia.

Dates and venues of the Catalan Mathematical Olympiad 2026-2027

The tests will take place in two sessions:

Friday 11 December 2026, from 16.00 to 19.30.

Saturday 12 December 2026, from 9.30 to 13.00.

Participants will be able to take the tests at one of the three planned venues:

Barcelona: Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics (FME) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, at Carrer de Pau Gargallo, 14.

Lleida: Edifici Polivalent, classroom 2.03, on the Cappont campus of the University of Lleida.

Tarragona: Classroom 310 of the Catalunya campus of the Rovira i Virgili University, at Avinguda de Catalunya, 35.

All updated information can be found on the official page of the Catalan Mathematical Olympiad.

Free sessions to prepare for the Olympiad

Participation in the Olympiad is free, but the SCM recommends attending orientation and preparation sessions to become familiar with the problems and develop solving strategies.

Several Catalan universities offer free activities, both in person and online, to help students deepen their mathematical reasoning.

Among the proposals announced for the 2026-2027 academic year are the Mathematical Problem Solving (RePMat) sessions of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), aimed at 4th-year ESO and baccalaureate students, which take place on Thursday afternoons until 17 December.

The University of Lleida also offers in-person preparation sessions on Wednesday afternoons, open to 4th-year ESO, baccalaureate and higher-level vocational training students, with no prior registration required.

The SCM preparation page also includes information on activities at the Rovira i Virgili University and other mathematical preparation initiatives. It is recommended to check the details of each proposal before attending.

Students can consult the schedule of preparation sessions for the mathematical olympiads on the SCM website.

Materials to practise and deepen problem solving

In addition to the in-person and online sessions, the SCM makes preparation materials available to students with open access.

Among these resources, the first volume of the SCM monograph collection stands out, edited by Josep Grané, which includes content for working on different areas of mathematics and a historical collection of olympiad problems.

The statements and solutions of previous editions of the Olympiad can also be consulted, a useful resource for becoming familiar with the type of problems posed in the competition.

These materials are available in the preparation section of the Catalan Mathematical Olympiad.

Registration through the SCM Community

Registration for the 2026-2027 edition is not yet listed as open on the official Olympiad page.

The SCM recommends that interested students register on the Comunitat SCM platform, the portal that centralises information on mathematical activities and facilitates access to registrations.

Through this space, news can be consulted and participation instructions accessed when the call is enabled.

Students and families can access the SCM Community to create a user account and stay up to date with the available activities.

The SCM continues to foster mathematical talent

With a new edition of the Catalan Mathematical Olympiad, the Catalan Society of Mathematics continues to promote interest in mathematics and the participation of young people in activities that go beyond the classroom.

The preparation sessions and the competition offer opportunities to deepen mathematical thinking, share interests with other students and discover new ways of approaching problems.

The SCM encourages young people interested in mathematics to prepare for this new edition and to regularly check the official information about the tests and registrations.
