Inauguration of\u00a0Bojos per la ci\u00e8ncia<\/em>\u00a0and start of the course\u00a0Bojos per les matem\u00e0tiques 2026<\/em><\/h3>\n

Last\u00a0Friday, January 9<\/strong>, the monumental complex of\u00a0M\u00f3n Sant Benet<\/strong>\u00a0hosted the inauguration of a new edition of\u00a0Bojos per la ci\u00e8ncia<\/em>, the program to promote scientific vocations promoted by the\u00a0Fundaci\u00f3 Catalunya La Pedrera<\/strong>. The event brought together a packed room of\u00a0boys and girls highly motivated by science<\/strong>, participants of the 13 courses organized this year, accompanied by their families and the coordinating teams of the different programs.<\/p>\n

The event was led by a young woman who had previously participated in one of the\u00a0Bojos<\/em>, programs, who shared her personal experience and introduced the different moments of the inauguration, providing a close and inspiring perspective for the new participants.<\/p>\n

This year, the spotlight of the inaugural conference was on\u00a0mathematics<\/strong>, with the participation of\u00a0Xavier Ros-Oton<\/strong>,\u00a0National Research Award for Young Talent 2024<\/strong>, awarded by the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation. In her talk, about\u00a0the equations that move the world<\/em>, she brought the audience closer to what a mathematician really does, taking as an example her research in Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). They appear in the description of very diverse phenomena, but the questions hidden behind the equations are common: do solutions exist? how many can there be? what are these solutions like? studying these answers is the task of mathematics. The conference highlighted both the origin and meaning of mathematical models and the deep and transversal work of mathematicians, capable of generating results with applications in many fields of knowledge, providing examples related to the various courses of the Bojos program.<\/p>\n

From the course coordinations, linked to research institutes and universities in the country, they emphasized how these programs contribute to\u00a0broadening horizons<\/strong>, bringing the university and research world closer to young people and helping them imagine their future in scientific research.<\/p>\n

During the event,\u00a0Albert Granados<\/strong>, coordinator of the course\u00a0Crazy about mathematics<\/em>, explained the general lines of the program and what the selected boys and girls will experience throughout the year, with sessions taking place at the various Catalan universities where the mathematics degree is taught, such as the\u00a0Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics of the UPC<\/strong>, the\u00a0Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Barcelona<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0Faculty of Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona<\/strong>, where the Department of Mathematics is located. In fact, at the UAB they had already made a first preliminary stay, coinciding with the\u00a0selection test<\/strong>, which also allowed them to get to know first-hand the\u00a0Centre for Mathematical Research<\/strong>, thus reinforcing direct contact with the university and research environment from the very beginning.<\/p>\n

The event ended with an\u00a0informal snack<\/strong>, which allowed a first closer contact between the course participants\u00a0Bojos per les matem\u00e0tiques 2026<\/em>. Coming from very diverse centers and municipalities, the boys and girls shared the same excitement and enthusiasm to start this new adventure. In this space, the\u00a0Catalan Society of Mathematics,<\/b>\u00a0as the organizing entity of the course gave them a small detail as a welcome gesture and to reinforce the sense of group, as well as their connection with initiatives such as the\u00a0Kangaroo<\/strong>\u00a0and other outreach activities.<\/p>\n

The next day,\u00a0Saturday, January 10<\/strong>, the group already started the\u00a0first official session of the course\u00a0<\/strong>with an activity dedicated to experimenting with the inaugural session \u00abMathematics that are touched, seen and lived\u00bb\u00a0<\/em>led by Anton Aubanell, Jordi Font, Sergi M\u00faria, Francesc Massich and Manel Mart\u00ednez.<\/p>\n

Bojos per les matem\u00e0tiques 2026<\/em>\u00a0starts another year with the aim of offering an intense, shared, and inspiring experience around mathematics, in an environment that combines rigor, discovery, and passion for knowledge.<\/div>\n
