Among her most recognized contributions are the development of Lagrangian descriptors, the definition of the kinematic edge of the polar vortex and the Lagrangian jet. These advances have opened new perspectives in the study of planetary internal dynamics, oceanic and stratospheric circulation, as well as in highly complex areas such as climatology or the prediction of turbulent flows.

She is currently the youngest female professor at the UPC. With over 70 invited lectures at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, ENS-Lyon or NASA JPL, and with over 40 international collaborators, Curbelo has placed her research at the global forefront. Her works have been published in high-impact journals, some highlighted as cover stories, and have had repercussions in general media. She has secured funding exceeding half a million euros in highly competitive projects, has mentored over 20 students and currently supervises a postdoctoral researcher and a doctoral thesis. She is also an editor of leading international journals and Science Officer of the Nonlinear Processes in Geophysics division of the European Geosciences Union.

Her talent and leadership have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Donald L.
