For the first time (although some voices say this is not the case...), the GA had to vote to choose between two bids: Saint Petersburg and Paris. The IMU executive committee had selected Saint Petersburg as the \u00abbest\u00bb bid, but the Paris bid decided to present itself anyway so that the GA could vote between the two bids. The result was 83 votes for Saint Petersburg and 65 for Paris.
