This March 14<\/strong>, Barcelona commemorated the International Day of Mathematics<\/strong> with a notable symbolic act: Pla\u00e7a del Pi has been temporarily renamed Pla\u00e7a de la constant matem\u00e0tica \u03c0<\/strong>. This initiative, promoted by the\u2019Barcelona City Council<\/strong> and the Catalan Society of Mathematics (SCM)<\/strong>, aims to promote mathematics among citizens, especially young people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

During the event, held mid-morning in the district of Ciutat Vella<\/strong>, the spotlight was on \u03c0<\/strong>, the constant that expresses the relationship between the circumference's length and diameter and can be rounded to 3,14<\/strong>\u2014which is why March 14 (3\/14 in Anglo-Saxon notation) is the date chosen for this international celebration<\/strong>. The square will keep this name until March 21<\/strong>, as part of a campaign to bring mathematics closer to everyone.<\/p>\n

Additionally, within the program of activities to promote mathematical outreach, the Municipal Library Network<\/strong> organizes a series of talks<\/strong> on the relationship between mathematics and art<\/strong>, as well as educational workshops open to all ages.<\/p>\n

The celebration will culminate on March 20<\/strong> with the 30th edition of the Kangaroo Test<\/strong>, one of the most emblematic activities promoted by the SCM. This international competition, aimed at primary and secondary school students, has recorded a record participation in Catalonia<\/strong>, with over 110,000 enrolled students<\/strong>.
